Carter’s blog: Svenska dagen 2011-02-19

Blog 13

Dear reader as I'm writing this it's a nice sunny day here in Stockholm but don't let that fool you it is still -10°C. At the moment there is no end in sight to the sub-zero temperatures with the long-term weather forecast (which isn’t worth a carrot it must be said) predicting the chilly weather to continue well into early March. I’m sat in the warmth of home though enjoying listening to some new music (Gorillaz’s experimental iPad album: The Fall and Radiohead: The King of Limbs).

Since Blog 12 I’ve had a Royal visit from Princess Wood who came to stay for a few days. Lots of wining and dining was partaken in however the Princess still managed to get disgruntled; as is the purview of a Princess. I’ll see HRH Wood again on my next trip home in March which is looking likely to include some go-karting and drinking (not simultaneously) with old friends. I also had a night out in Stockholm with a few friends from work as it was one of their Birthdays. We braved the 30cm of snow from the previous day and went to a couple of bars in Södermalm and it was a good laugh.

This weekend there is no football to keep me entertained as Liverpool FC were knocked out of the FA Cup but at least this means the squad gets a rest ahead of next week’s Europa League match at Anfield. The last Europa League match was very poor to say the least but a 0-0 draw is a decent result and you’d expect Liverpool to win at home and go through to the last 16. King Kenny seems to have settled things down nicely now and we have had a few good results in the absence of our new signings. When everyone is fit and playing I think we should give most teams a run for their money between now and the end of the season. You certainly couldn’t say that under Hodgson.

To give you some light entertainment I thought I would reboot my Blog statistic and web link feature from the end of last year.

Statistic: This Blog’s statistic is mainly to make me feel better about the temperature here in Stockholm. The lowest temperature ever measured on Earth was −89.2°C at the Antartic Vostok Station in 1983. The lowest temperature to be measured in a laboratory is 1.0×10-10K or in other words as close as it is humanly possible to get near to -273°C (absolute zero – the coldest temperature possible in our universe). Temperature stats provided by good old Wikipedia.

A Lotus Flower
Web Link: This Blog’s web link will be the video of a song (Lotus Flower) off Radiohead’s new album. Now I know most of you mus’o’s will have seen/heard it already but for those who haven’t I think it is worth watching just for Tom Yorke’s dancing alone! http://tinyurl.com/BlogXIII-link

Right then I haven’t really got much else to say this Blog. I would just like to say thanks for my first Southern Hemisphere hit on the revolving map to your left. The hit came from Mendoza, Argentina; I’m assuming it was from my old housemate Dr Altamirano, muchas gracias señor. For the rest of you who may be eagerly awaiting my Cognitive Neuroscience blog it will arrive next time I promise (you might be sensing I have a definite character trait of procrastination, I’ll tell you all about that later…). Until Blog 14 then.
